COMPETITIONS FESTIVAL
* SECOND DEMONSTRATION CONCERT Dancing, singing, and instrumental music provided excellent entertainment at the Civic Theatre last evening when the second of the Christchurch Competitions Society’s demonstration concerts was held. A feature of the evening was the number of bouquets and boxes of chocolates which were showered on the performers The programme was as follows:—Piano solo, ’■Scherzo,’’ Wynne Simpson; song. "Silver Buckle.” Nola Boocock; tao dance, Loma Brown; prepared speech, "Pleasures of Reading,” Miss Grace Kidd violin solo, “Sonata,” Claire Simpson: operatic dance. Shirley Maybury; soprano solo. "O Sleep Why Dost Thou Leave Me.” Miss May Allen; recitation, “The Listeners.” Dorothy Shah; Dutch duo, Joan Watson and Helen Devlin; song, “Annlda’s Garden," Miss Mairc Campbell; piano solo. “Ballade.” Miss Zita Munson; song and dance, Maurice Dixon; soprano solo, "Love Triumphant.” Daisy Perry; eccentric dance, Billie Addis; junior choir, Villa Maria Choir; recital “Joan of Arc.” Bernice Tremaln; song. “The Vagabond.” Mr C. D. Sealey; tap duo, Norman and Pat Fraser: soprano solo, "Song of Smuggler's Lass,” Miss Grace Nixon; piano duet, "Hcxantanz." Maureen Gill and Lila Lawrence; tap dance, Heather McLaehlan; operatic duo, M'ss Marjorie Austin and Mr William Mills: song. “Twilight It Is.” Miss Ruth Morrison; song. "Devotion.” Mr Noel Burtt; ballroom dancing. Miss N. Whittington and Mr W. Wilson; bright 20 minutes, Tom Thumb Choir.
