THE MARCUS SHOW

“LA VIE PAREE” AT THE THEATRE ROYAL The keynote of the Marcus Show, which is having a season at the Theatre Royal, is quality. Revue oi the most modern and daring variety is exploited on a scale of magnificence and speciality previously not attempted on local stages. Christchurch, like towns and other cities in the Dominion, has been decisively conquered by “La Vie Paree,” and the show which will follow, starting on Tuesday evening, will, without doubt, be every bit as successful. The new show will be “Broadway Vanities. “La Vie Paree” is an introduction, and a very pleasant one, to American stage-production methods. Every item, every turn, is blended by fast, smooth presentation against glittering, changing backgrounds. So swift is the continuity that there are occasions when a new act is launched before the previous performers take their bow. There is scarcely time to praise, so abruptly is applause checked by the appearance of fresh fare. It is not the type of revue which Christchurch sees once or twice a year. Practically every scene is a grand spectacle. The most effective full-stage presentation is “Palais D’Argent,” in which Ha Cha San, a particularly shapely dancer, poses and performs with athletic grace clad al-

most solely in a coat of silver paint amid a setting of revue grandeur. Commencing on Tuesday, an entirely new programme will be shown in “Broadway Vanities,” which is reported to be even more spectacular than “La Vie Paree.”
