COUNT VON LUCKNER'S VISIT

TO THB EDITOB OF TH» P&KSB. Sir Your correspondent, Schmidt," wishes us to welcome Count von Luckner if only to correct our "false" impressions of Nazism. The people of Spain and the rest of the world are under no delusion regarding the foreign policy of both Germany and Italy. Their warlike intervention in Spain where they supplied the blood-stained hands of the rebel generals with weapons and laid waste the Spanish country with aeroplanes and artillery is generally known throughout the world. The Nazi foreign policy tries to expedite and bring to fruition the formula put forward by Herr Hitler that Germany can tolerate the existence of no other European Power besides herself. Hitler wants to be supreme leader of Europe and the more he shouts Bolshevism to disguise his real intentions the more convinced the people of Europe can be that he Is planning a murderous attack on them, too. He Is conducting his struggle internationally and interferes in the internal affairs of democratically-ruled countries, as for example Spain. Count von Luckner is not on a health cruise. The internal policy of Nazism in Germany has resulted in dissatisfaction of the working I masses because real wages have fallen owing to war economy and despite the most intense terror of the Nazi clique, the people are resolutely resisting Nazi war aims The new justice and heresy trials are adding to the 200,000 political prisoners already in prison. The people are required to give worship to the stupid Wotan. Many great leaders of the people have been executed or are in gaol. The Nobel Peace Prize for 1935 was awarded to C. von Ossietsky, a great soldier of peace, who has practically been in prison since 1931 and is now a' wreck suffering from heart disease and tuberculosis. The £6OOO is being retained for the funds of the Nazi Party, as were also the funds of former trade union and other organisations which had been forcibly raided. According to the resistance of trade unions and Labour Party branches in Australia and New Zealand, I am afraid Herr Schmidt is going to be disappointed. The correspondent's challenge when he refers to raw materials is so much bluff, and unfortunately is encouraged by some democratic countries whenever they show signs of retreating before Fascist demands. However. I would remind your correspondent that in the ordinary course of world trade most countries have to import raw materials. People who partake of the hospitality of a democratic country and at the same time eulogises a brutal dictatorship should be prepared to Join the fearless Fascist raider on his trip back to Gennany.-You^tc^ June 2, 1937. [Subject to the right of reply of "A.W." this correspondence is now closed.— Ed., "The Press."]
