OFFICIAL FORECASTS (THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, June 3. iyhe weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 hj pm . by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Moderate to strong north-west-erly winds, reaching gale force in places, but backing to southerlies after about 24 hours. Weather saually and changeable, with rain In the western ranges, and extending to eastern parts by Friday night. Some thunder and hail possible. Temperatures mild. Seas rough north of Kaikoura; elsewhere moderate. The following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather fair at first in eastern coastal areas, but otherwise squally and changeable, with intermittent rain and some heavy falls in districts with a westerly aspect. Thunder and hail probable in places. A deep westerly depression extends across the south Tasman Sea on to the Dominion, while pressure is relatively high to the north. Winds—Moderate to strong northwesterly to westerly, reaching gale force at times south of Kawhia and Napier, backing later in places to south-westerly. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rough south of Kawhia and about Cook and Foveaux Straits, and rising north of Kawhia; elsewhere slight to moderate in coastal waters. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong winds between north-west and west of gale force at times, backing later' to south-westerlies. Seas rough. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine and warm, with brilliant sunshine in the morning. The maximum temperature was 66.8 degrees. A light north-west wind was blowing. At 1 o'clock this morning the sky was clear and a fresh north-west wind was blowing. The temperature was 53 degrees. The barometer, falling, registered 29.54 in.
