MR F. V. LYSAGHT £THE PRESS Special Servlce.l GERALDINE, June 2. Mr Frederick Villebois Lysaght, a well-known resident of the Geraldine district for the last 30 years, died at his home, “Denham,” Geraldine, recently. Mr Lysaght, who was in his eightyfirst year, was the eldest son of Captain J. R. Lysaght, an Imperial Army officer, who had seen service with the army in India before the mutiny. With his parents, Mr Lysaght, who was then 17 years of age, arrived in New Zealand in 1874. He -was educated at Haileybury College. On their arrival in New Zealand they lived in Christchurch for some time, Captain Lysaght taking up land in the seventies, at Mokoia, in the Hawera district, where some members of the family have lived ever since. In his younger days, Mr Lysaght was a well-known football player, and he had been a member of the Taranaki representative team. He was serving in the volunteers about the time of the Tarihaka trouble with the Maoris, when his father’s homestead was prepared in readiness for an attack if the Maoris became actively hostile. In 1887 Mr Lysaght married Miss Mary Acland, second daughter of the Hon. J. D. Acland, of Mount Peel. For some years he farmed in the Hawera district, but in 1900 he sold his property and purchased “Denham,” near Geraldine, where he lived till his death. He was a member of the Geraldine County Council for some years and was also prominently connected with acclimatisation sccieties, both in Taranaki, and South Canterbury. A very keen fisherman, he was until quite recently a well-known figure at the Rangitata mouth. Mr Lysaght was (for many years a member of St. Mary’s parish vestry and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was very popular in the district, and had many friends among all classes in the community. Mrs Lysaght died in 1915, and there were no children. The funeral took place at the Church of the Holy Innocents, Mount Peel, on Saturday, the Rev." Canon J. F. Coursey, vicar of Geraldine parish, officiating in the church and at the graveside. Mrs Coursey was the organist. -Representatives of the Geraldine County Council and of the Masonic Lodge, and many of his relations and friends, attended the funeral. The pall-bcarers were Messrs R. L. Wigley, J. Wigley, J. Lysaght, Morton Anderson, R. P ‘Harper, and H. J. D, Acland. MR W. DINWIDDIE (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) NAPIER, June 2. The death has occurred of Mr William Dinwiddie, for many years editor of the “Hawke’s Bay Herald." Before taking up literary work he was a bar•isler and solicitor Mr Dinwiddie was '•hairman of the Education Board for many years. He was apparently in good health, but collapsed and died thi° afternoon. He was aged 74 years. COLONEL J. H. BOSCAWEN (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND,- June 2. The death has occurred at Penzance, Cornwall, of Lieutenant-Colonel John ifclugh Boscawen. an honorary aide-de-camp to Lord Onslow and subsequent Governors-General of New Zealand up to the time of Lord Liverpool. He was aged 85 years. MR L. T, SYMES (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, June 2, The death occurred this morning of Mr Louis Thorley Byrnes, a wellknown former bank manager and stockbroker, of Auckland. He was 77 years of age. Mr Symes was born at Nelson in 1860, and joined the Bank of Australasia at Waverley in 1877. He was appointed manager at Gore in 1883. and in 1892 opened a branch at Gisborne. He was manager of the Auckland branch from 1912 to 1920, when he retired from the service of the bank. He was for srveral years a member of the Auckland Stock Exchange. Mr Symes was vice-president of the Northern Club for several years, and was connected with the Melanesian Mission. He leaves a wife, two sons, and one daughter.
