SOLAR EXPEDITION IN PACIFIC

AMERICANS ENTERTAINED BY NEW ZEALANDERS BOTH PARTIES PREPARING INSTRUMENTS (Received June 2, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 2. A radio message from the New Zealand solar expedition in the Phoenix Group says that last night the New Zealanders entertained the Americans. Speakers were Messrs Michie, Mitchell, and Hellwag, who referred to the cordial relations between the United States and New Zealand and to the meeting of old friends. Reference was made to Dr. John Rule and the late Mr Walter Cade, who were to accompany the New Zealand party. The coelostat was assembled on its base, the coronograph placed in* position and the framework cover erected. Messrs Geddes and Thomsen are continuing their observations of the zodiacal light bands with satisfactory results. The Americans are focusing their instruments and checking each day the two chronometers and 18 watches from time signals received by radio.
