AIR TRAINING SCHEME

REQUIREMENTS FOR SELECTION FULL DETAILS AVAILABLE Details of the requirements for candidates for the Government scheme for training a reserve of pilots for the Royal New Zealand Air Force and for short service commissions m that body and the Royal Air Force have been received by the secretary of the Canterbury Aero Club, Mr P. Climie. Quotas out of the total or 150 pilots to be trained each year have been allotted to certain selected aero clubs, and the Canterbury Club’s share is nine. All candidates will have to submit to a rigorous medical examination, and the standard of education required is three years at secondary school, including a school leaving certificate or pass in the matriculation examination in English and four other subjects. For short service commissions in the regular services mentioned, a pass in either examination in mathematics and elementary science is also necessary. Where candidates have gained neither of these a satisfactory certificate giving evidence of havmg attained an equivalent standard must be secured from the headmaster. A special request is made to all applicants to see that these educational requirements and proof of them are met before sending in their applications, ant also to see that birth certificates are also sent in. Although only one day had elapsed since the Government’s announcement , v. as made, 12 applications had been received yesterday morning at the office of the Canterbury Aero Club, which is receiving the applications and sorting them out before they are submitted for final examination by Government officers.
