THE HEALTH CAMP SCHEME

TO THE EDITOR OF TUB PRESS Sir,—Sister M. G. Davies hits the nail on the head in her reference to the futility of children’s health camps. The short period spent by the children at these camps cannot possibly sweep away the ill-effects of wrong food habits or lay the foundation ot a healthy, vigorous lile. The camps may be the means of providing a change for the children, but that is all; the word “health” is a misnomer. Government action is certainly indicated. Why not a Minister of propaganda for right feeding? What an opportunity for Mr R. Semple, with his flair for a crusade. He would save thousands of lives with a clarion call to healthy living and feeding, where he is now saving tens in his efforts to control motor traffic. I live to bless the day when my attention v. as first drawn to incorrect feeding by Dr. Ulric Williams, of Wanganui, for many ailments, including the common cold, have since been shown the door, never. I believe, to return. It distresses me to see how the children are being handicapped by the rubbish they are obliged or wish to consume through sheer ignorance. Health camps? Yes, by all means, but let them follow in their proper place after the spade work has been done in the schools and in the homes through the education of a benevolent and far-seeing Government. —Yours, etc., (MRS) M. M. PEEVER. Kumara, June 1, 1937.
