OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service,] WELLINGTON, June 2. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Moderate to strong north-east to northerly winds, possibly reaching gale force in places, backing to sou.herliea during Thursday. Weather cloudy to overcast and rain probable, with seme heavy falls, and on the range-; snow. Temperatures mild at first, but colder lr,ter. Seas rough nonh of elsewhere moderate. The following is the Dominion forecast:—■ Weather cloudy to overcast and squally with general rain, heavy falls and some flooding being probable, more especially in the northern, central, and western areas; thunder in places. Temperatures m |]d, but later becoming cold, with some snow on the highest levels. A deep and extensive depression Is advancing on to the Dominion from the Tasman Sea. Winds—Moderate to strong northeasterly to northerly, reaching gale force at many places, backing to southerly shortly in northern and southern portions of the Dominion, and southerlies becoming general within the next 24 to 36 hours. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rather rough to rough. Eastern Tasman Sea —Strong northerly winds to gales, backing to southerlies. Seas rough. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine but cloudy, the sun shining intermittently in the afternoon. During the afternoon there was a fresh north-easterly wind. The maximum temperature was 58.1 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was clear and a light north-east breeze was blowing. The temperature 47 degrees, and the barometer falling, registered 29.71 Inches. IN OTHER PLACES Auckland—A strong north-north-east wind, with misty rain and cooler temperatures, made conditions unpleasant throughout the day. The barometer fell steadily, and registered 29.95 inches at 5 p.m. Wellington—The weather was threatening yesterday, with a few light showers. Temperatures were mild. A moderate to strong north-west wind was blowing. Dunedin—The weather yesterday was mild. A light north-easterly breeze was blowing, m the late afternoon the theripometer reached 58 degrees, the highest maximum for* some time. The barometer fell sharply throughout the day, and registered 29.55 inches at 5 p.m.
