DIALECTIC SOCIETY MEETS

There was a poor attendance at a debate on the subject “That the Labour Government will go out of office at the next election,’’ arranged by the Canterbury University College Dialectic Society and held last evening in the Students’ Union Building. Mr M. Widding was in the chair. The judge. Canon S. Parr, awarded the debate to the affirmative side by a narrow margin. He placed as best speakers Messrs "J. S. Rumbold and B. J. Drake. The teams were;— Affirmative: Messrs J. S. Rumbold, L. H. Coursey, M. A. Jermyn; negative, Messrs B. J. Drake, H. D. Livingstone, M. G. Loughnan.
