HARBOUR BOARD CHAIRMANSHIP

MR W. K. M’ALPINE RE-ELECTED Mr W. K. McAlpine and Mr R. T. McMillan were yesterday unanimously re-elected chairman and deputy-chair-man respectively of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, at the statutory annual meeting of that body. Both Mr McAlpine and Mr McMillan were nominated for the chairmanship the former by Messrs W. G. Gallagher and H. Holderness. and the latter by Messrs W. J. Walter and C. Ogdvie. In declining nomination, Mr McMillan referred to Mr McAlpine’s very excellent service as chairman last year and stated that, having regard to all the circumstances, it would be wise to re-elect him for another year. He accordingly asked his proposer and seconder to withdraw their nomination of him (Mr McMillan). _ Mr Ogilvie agreed to this course, but Mr Walter declined, stating that the office of chairman was one that should go round the table from year to year. Mr McMillan then declined nomination. and Mr McAlpine was elected unopposed. , . , In returning thanks for his election Mr McAlpine expressed appreciation of Mr McMillan’s generosity in standing down.
