Commercial Bank of Australia were firm with buyers and business at 19s. Bank of New Zealand were stronger with dealings at 45s 45s 3d, and 45s 4d, market closing 45s 2d buyers, 45s 4s sellers. Severs of Union Banks came down to £ll. Gear Meat were firm at 16s. New Zealand Refrigerating fu’ly paid were fractionally firmer with sellers and business at 19s 2d. North Canterbury Freezing advanced to 42s ma~kct closing 41s 9d buyers. 42s 2d sellers. New Zealand Breweries, cum dividend, ex rights, had dealings at 51s 3d and 51s 6d; the “rights” changed hands at 24s to 255, market closing 24s 7d buyers, 24s 9d sellers Staples Brewery had dealings at 53s 9d, and more were offered at 53s Bd, buyers at 53s 3d. Miscellaneous Anthony Hordern were fractionally weaker with buyers and dealings at 18s lOd. Amalgamated Wireless contributing wore firmer on buyers’ offers 465. Broken Hill Proprietary, ex dividend, were firm at 79s 9d, c’osi'x quotations Id on either side. Dunlop Rubber showed an easing with dealings at 22s 7d and 22s 6d, and these were sellers’ and buyers’ closing quotations respectively. Electrolytic Zinc ordinary had business at 5Ss 4d; the preference were firmer at 57s 3d. 57s (Id, and 57s Bd. G. J. Coles declined to dealings at prices ranging f-om £5 9s to £5 Bs. Felt and Textiles (Australia) were fractionally firmer at 365. New Zealand Newspapers had business at 35s 6d. Shillings, Ltd., relapsed to 18s 6d, buyers staying in at that figure, sellers at 19s. Taranaki J Oilfields were weaker with dealings at 3s 7d, 3s Bd, and 3s 9d. Mining Broken Hill South, cum dividend, on the morning call had business at 43s 6d; dealings on the afternoon call were at prices ranging from 49s 6d to 51s, market closing 50s 6d buyers, 50s 7d sellers. Mount Lyells dropoed to 44s Id and 44s 4d, and more were offered at the higher price. Mount Morgans were easier at prices ranging from 13s Id to 13s 4d. sellers staying in at the highest price, buyers at 13s 3d. Unlisted! MARKETS CONTINUE FIRM HEAVIER VOLUME OF TRADING Markets were generally firm on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday, and turnover was increased. Bank shares, breweries, Coles, and some Australian industrials were active.

MELBOURNE Bonds showed continued strength on the Melbourne market yesterday. Industrials and Barriers were firm on the expectation of a better London market following the revision of the British defence tax proposalfe. Dunlops were very busy at 23s 4d. Sales:—
