SILVER WEDDING

MR AND MRS L. DOUGLAS To celebrate the silver wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs L. Douglas (Karamea), members of the Karamea Women's Institute committee and their husbands paid a surprise visit to their home. Supper was served by the visitors, nnd later Mr R. Hawick presented a crystal set to Mrs Douglas, with the good wishes of all present. Mrs Douglas also received a bouquet of flowers. The evening passed pleasantly with games and musical items. BACHELORS' CLUB DANCE AT FRASCATI The Canterbury Bachelors' Club, a social club that has been in existence for about five years, held its second annual dance at Frascati last night. Prominently displayed was the club's large green, red, and yellow banner, and in the centre was placed the club's "coat of arms," miniatures of which were worn by the hosts on the lapels of their coats. Music was supplied by Fritz Seymour's orchestra. The members of the dance committee were Messrs L. M. Best, R. L. Calvert, K. W. Staples, Mi H. Biggs, J. E. Hammond, D. H. Hammond, and J. B. Williams, honorary secretary. The ladies present included Mrs Walcot Wood, Missrs Sylvia Smith. H. Pascoe, Anne Macfarlane, Lorna Mann, Githa Hand-Newton, Lola McMenamin, Alison Scott, Jean Hunter, Ethelwyn Bates, Kathleen McNamara, Ellece Blank, Marjorie Best, Lorna Best, Marjorie Wood, Edith Bartram, Edna Wright, Rawea Trent, Rona Trent, Cushla Ennis, Betty Hatherley. Noni Thomson, Sheila Tennent. Patricia Simpson. Joy Shand, Robin Turner, Joan Potter, and Isobel Coleman. MISS JESSIE KING HONOURED Miss Jessie King, who was formerly a resident of Christchurch, and a popular member of musical circles, and who is now revisiting the city, was the guest of honour at a very enjoyable reception given at Beath's yesterday by Miss Mynette Watson. Amongst those present were Miss Jessie King, Miss Mynette Watson, Mesdames J. E. Donald, Charles Thomas, Keith Garrick, L. Matson, Jack Matson, Allan Matson, Keith Parkinson, William Matson, Graham Jamieson, David Matson, Maniford Watson, Keith Matson, Mcßae Peacock, L. W. Matson, Robson, and Miss Ina Warner.
