WOMAN SENTENCED AT PALMERSTON NORTH (PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEQBAM.) PALMERSTON NORTH, May 3. "I cannot pass over a case of this kind without imposing punishment," said Mr Justice Reed in the Supreme Court, when a married woman, Amy Louisa Graham, appeared for sentence, having pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to injure a neighbour's baby by placing caustic soda in the baby's milk.. CounseJ for the accused pleaded for probation on the grounds that accused never intended that the child should be injured, and the state of her mind at the time. His Honour: I cannot accept for one instant that a person in the habit of using caustic soda would not appreciate the dreadful thing it would be for a child to get poison in its mouth. The child might have died or been injured for life. Accused was ordered to be detained for 15 months for reformative purpt ses. ___^
