A CORONATION ODE
* PERFORMANCE AT HARMONIC SOCIETY’S CONCERTS The Harmonic Society, at its opening concerts for the 1937 season, on May 5 and 8, will perform the “Coronation Ode,” composed by Healey Willan, for the Coronation celebrations at Westminster Abbey. The ode is written with solemn dignity, in keeping with the occasion, for choir anti organ. Mr G. Martin will accompany the choir on the organ. The following are the words of the ode: > The King, the King, proclaim the King. O God In Whom we place our trust, All humbly pray to Thee, That we throughout the coming years ijtay loyal and steadfast be. Guide Thou our footsteps lest we stray. And make our festal morn A day of hope, of peace, and love. Let gladness be new-born. The King, the King, God save the Klngl From overseas our voices ring In glad and loyal strain, From shore to shore as one we sing King George, long may he reign. We offer him who wears the crown > His noble , sire wore Our love and loyalty full strong As in the days of yore. Across the ocean’s wide expanse The winds of freedom blow, And bear our message to the Isles Where Rose and Shamrock grow, And Leek and Thistle too shall hear The song the breezes bring— The mighty wave of melody We senffto greet our King.
