BANK SHARES ACTIVE MARKETS MORE LIVELY Markets were more lively on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday and turnover increased considerably. There was a big turnover in banks, but industrials were also traded actively. Prices were on the whole inclined to firm.

DEALINGS COMPLETED LISTED STOCKS Sales en 'Change

Banking Bank of Australasia changed hands at £l2 16s and £l2 17s. Commercial Bank of Australia had dealings at 19s 8d and 19s 7d, and more were offered at the lower price. Commercial Bank of Sydney had business at £22 7s 6d, market closing 2s 6d either way. E. S., and A. Bank, cum dividend, had dealings at £6 10s and £6 12s. National Bank of Australasia. £5 paid, were firmer at £7 17s, closing quotations Gd on either side. Bank of New South Wales showed an easing tendency with dealings at £37 10s and £37 7s 0d and further sellers at the lower price. Bank of New Zealand were fractionally weaker with sellers and dealings at 455. Mercantile Mutual Insurance had business at 30s 6d. South British Insurance, cum dividend, were fractionally weaker at 94s 4d. Dalgety and Company were firmer with buyers and dealings at £ll. Goldsbrough Morts recovered to 37s 3d. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Ordinary stock remained unaltered at £SO 15s, but closed easeir with sellers at £SO 10s New Zealand Refrigerating fully paid were firm at 19s 6d and the 10s paid at 8s lOd. Dominion Breweries were firmer on buyers' offers. 41s 3d. Buyers of Tooth's Brewery raised their bidß to 575. Miscellaneous Anthony Hordern dropped to 19s 8d market closing Id either way. Broken Hill Proprietary recovered to 82s 6d and 82s. Colonial Sugar were firmer at £45. Dunlop Rubber appeared stronger with dealings at 20s lOd and 20s lid. Electrolytic Zinc were firmer with dealings in the ordinary at 58s and 57s 6d and in the preference at 59s 3d. G. J. Coles moved up to £5 4s 9d and closed' firmer with buyers at £5 ss. Hume Pipe were firm at 20s to 20s -2d. Shillings, Limited, were fractionally weaker with buyers and business at 16s 4d. Mining Mount Lyell ranged from 46s 2d tc 453. buyers staying in at the lowest price, sellers at 45s 2d. Mount Morgan* declined from 16s 3d to 15s Bd, and more were offered at the lowest price, buyers at 15s 7d. Unlisted Stocks New River remained unaltered at 7£d. MINING COMPANY REPORTS AND RETURNS RIMU DREDGE The Rimu dredge "turn is 267.4 crude ounces of gold for 132 hours and 47,720 yards treated. PLACER DEVELOPMENT Placer Development, Ltd., reports that Greenshields and Company, Montreal, have exercised their option on the 20,000 shares placed under offer to them' in February, at 20 dollars a share net. The issued shares of the company now tptal 730,000 of one dollar each. NEW BROKEN HILL An important development at depth on the Barrier South leases at Broken Hill, New, South Wales, owned by New Broken Hill Consolidated, Ltd., is reported by the genera! managers, the Zinc Corporation, Ltd.. Diamond drill hole No. 8, being drilled from the 1330 ft level at an angle of 80 degrees, entered calcitic lead ore at a depth of 1257 ft. At 1301 ft 4ln the drill was still in ore. From 1257 ft to 1299Jft, that is, a true width of I2£ft, the average assay was 13.4 per cent, lead, 2.60 z silver, and 7.8 per cent. zinc. Bewick, Moreing and Company, engineers, report that this appears to. be the top of the broad section of the lead lode, and if this is proved to be correct the broad lead lode has been encountered at a vertical depth 400 ft shallower.
