EMBROIDERY

Lace Stitches

We show here the design for a figure of 8 stitch that was requested by a reader last week. It is made by using the double stitch shown a fortnight ago; this makes the vertical bars for the sides of the two loops of the 8.

First row: Work to the right button hole stitches evenly spaced with small loops between.

Second row: Work to the left into the first row loops with three closo button hole stitches, into one loop, three loops between the groups of close stitches.

Third row: Loop loop, two close stitches, and two more below them round the thread, loop, two close stitches; repeat. Fourth row: Repeat second row. Fifth row: Repeat third row. Sixth row: Repeat second row. Seventh row: Repeat first row* Then begin the pattern again.
