TRAFFIC IN OPIUM
CHINESE FINED AFTER RAID ON HO.USE . (PBB3B ASSOCIATION TELEGBAM.) AUCKLAND, April 21. Fong Shee, aged 34, a laundryman, the last of nine Chinese arrested when the police cut their way through a roof and entered a heavily-barricaded house occupied by Chinese in Grey avenue on April 6 f pleaded guilty to being the occupier of premises used for smoking opium. Accused was fined £IOO. Pleading guilty to having prepared opium in his possession, Chong On, aged 32, was fined £SO. The police said Chong was accosted at midday on April 3. Although he denied being in possession of opium, eight packets were found in a tobacco tin in his pocket. He also had £ll and two notebooks in which entries showed that between February 5 and April 2 he bought 13 tins, and that sales from February 11 to March 31 amounted to £154. "Thig is one of the men we have been anxious to catch for a long time. He is ah opium trafficker," saia a detective.
