FIGHTING THROUGH TO RESCUE
MANY SNOWBOUND IN U.S. (Received February 14, 10.7 p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, February 14. Rescue crews worked at top speed in four widely separated 'western areas to free more than 100 persons Who "Were snowbound. THirtytwo persons have been marooned since, December 27 on the north rim of the Grand Canyon, which is buried under snow. They have notified the approaching rescuers that food is running, low and that another snowstorm is feared. The rescuers, still 54 miles away, "attacked intervening drifts with three big snow ploughs, including a machine used by Admiral Byrd on one of his Antarctic expeditions. Elsewhere, seven men are missing. Searching parties are facing almost insurmountable difficulties.
