—♦ — OFFICIAL FORECASTS V - \ [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON. February 14. The Dominion Observatory's weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m., and dealing ■with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: — Moderate "to strong southerly ' winds freshening at times to gale force; weather. cold and changeable with occasional showers, heavy in places with possibly some hail and thunder, seas rough with a heavy southerly swell. The official Dominion forecast is:— V*?-' Weather still squally and unsettled, with heavy showers - at times in most places; hail and thunder still probable, with snow on the ranges; temperatures cold. Pressure is still very low to the east, while an intense anti-cyclone is centred over Tasmania. A series of secondary depressions continues to cross New Zealand. Winds—South-westerlies or southerlies still predominating and strong to gale force at times in many places. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rather rough to rough, with a heavy southerly swell. Eastern Tasman Sea— Strong southerly winds of gale force at times; seas rough with a heavy southerly swell. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER A south-westerly wind which developed into a strong gale lowered the maximum temperature on Saturday to 56.2 degrees and there was little sunshine. Heavy showers fell in the morning and there was further rain in the afternoon. Yesterday was little warmer, the maximum temperature being 58.4. The sky was almost completely clouded in the morning, but in the afternoon the sun shone brightly. The air remained cold, however. At 1 o'clock this morning steady rain was falling and there was no wind. The temperature was 45 degrees and the barometer, which was rising, registered 29.57 inches.
