Because of bad weather, several matches in the second last series of the North Canterbury Lawn Tennis Sub-Associa-tion's intermediate competition were not played on Saturday afternoon. Rangiora won from Fernside by default.
ELLESMERE BEATEN BY NORTH CANTERBURY
REPRESENTATIVE MATCH AT RANGIORA
Showers of rain" in the morning and a boisterous wind &VL day marred the success of the representative tennis match between the North Canterbury and Ellesmere Sub-Associations' senior teams at Rangiora on Saturday. Only 18 of 32 matches were played and North Canterbury won by Jl matches to 7. The game score was 125 to 122 in favour of the winning team. Results were as follows. North Canterbury names being mentioned first:— Men's Singles—M. Lilley lost to R. H. Ford 4-6. Women's Singles—Miss A. Dalziel beat Miss E. Thompson 6-3, Miss P. Benjes beat Miss M. Amyes 6-2. Men's Doubles—L. Watkins and A. S. Nash lost to T. J. Free and N. McKenzie 7-9, Watkins and W. Wade lost to M. McKenzie and G. A. Nutt 2-9, E. Knowles and R. Woodward beat W. J. Wraight and G. Happer 9-8, Lilley and L. Taylor lost to Ford and E. G. Maindonald 5-9.
Women's Doubles—Misses D. Tyler and E. Edlin beat Miss H. Morten and Mrs R. H. Ford 9-3. Misses M.Wade and Watkins beat Misses E. Eggleton and E. McLaughlin 9-6, Misses Benjes and Dalziel beat Misses Thompson and Amyes 9-8.
Mixed Doubles —Wade and Miss Wade lost to Free and Mrs Ford 4-9, Watkins and Miss Watkins beat N. McKenzie and Miss Morten 9-5, Lilley and Miss Wade beat M. McKenzie and Miss Eggleton 9-8, Nash and Miss Watkins lost to Nutt and Miss Eggleton 4-9, Nash and Miss Dalziel lost to Wraight and Miss McLaughlin 6-9, Taylor and Miss Edlin beat Maindonald and Miss Thompson 9-7, Woodward and Miss Benjes beat Ford and Miss Thompson 9-7, Knowles and Miss Tyler beat Happer and Miss Amyes 9-5.
