LADY GAY UNPACKS HER SLEEVES

“There’s no doubt,” said Lady Gay, with a sigh, “my Best Brains are very much overworked. Why, they haven’t had a holiday for weeks. I’ll have to buy a new set. “Brains are expensive,” remarked Mother Bunch, looking up from a picture she was making of Ernest in his new boiler jacket. “I saw some second-hand ones at “I don’t use second-hand ones” said Lady Gay, in a haughty way. 11l make these do. Watch me, Mother Bunch.” Then Lady Gay slowly unpacked her sleeves, and the Surprises came tumbling out. First, there was a “Best Gladioli Section” in the Gardens competition. You’ll find that on another Page. Then there was the Cholmondeley Home Cot Surprise. You see, we’ll soon be working for our cot again, and Lady Gay suggests that you start making articles for a “Treasure Island” Fair to be held later in the year. Treasure Island will be for our % cot fund, and there will be all sorts of stalls to he provided. You can make anything you like from a pincushion to a pushchair. Oh, yes, you could make a pushchair. At least the boys could. They could make dolls pushchairs, “Treasure Island” won’t he “Treasure Island” for some time yet, but we can put in the time getting ready for it, can’t we? “Treasure Island,” with its Treasure Chests—that’s a kind of bran-tub—its “Mystery Island” and all sorts of things will be interesting. Now, that’s a Holiday Surprise, and it came right out of Lady Gay’s sleeves. What will you do for “Treasure Island?” —LADY GAY.
