RAILWAY STATION MEALS

Replying to a question asked in a letter by “A Digger,” in “The Press” of January 28, a Railway Department official stated that the time allowed passengers by the mail and express trains for dinner at Otira and Oamaru was from 22 to 25 minutes. The department’s experience was that the time was generally ample and that it was only on very rare occasions that it was found necessary to allow additional time. In many instances the diningroom was clear of diners before the time allowed had expired. Passengerj by trains did not expect to be able to take the same time over meals in railway refreshment rooms as they would take in their own homes, and would not favour the time of train journeys being lengthened to give increased time for meals.

“Housewife” expresses thanks to ladies who sent her recipes for sore hands.
