MOUNT TASMAN CLIMBED
FIRST WEST TO EAST
TRAVERSE
The first west to east traverse of Mt Tasman (11.745 feet) was made last week by a party consisting of Messrs S E. Thompson and G. L. ClarK of Christchurch, and Jack Cox, 01 Waiho. From Pioneer Ridge at the head of the Fox Glacier. Mount Lendenfield was climbed by way of the Marcel Pass in a high wind. However, by the time the party reached Engineer Col the wind died down sufficiently to allow an attempt by the northern arete of Mount Tasman, and the summit was reached without further incident. Following down the southern arete to the Silberhorn presented no difficulties to the party, except in one place where a schrund made it necessary to descend the face on the Tasman side of the ridge. Continuing along the Main Divide toward Mount Teichelman, the party climbed an unnamed snow peak about 10 t 500 feet high, overlooking • Mount Teichelxnan,
