SINGAPORE TO BE TESTED
SHAM FIGHT PLANNED FOR NEXT MONTH THREE SERVICES TO TAKE PART . (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.) (Received January 14, 9.30 p.m.) SINGAPORE, January 14. The units which will participate in combined manoeuvres early in February to test the defences by land and sea of the Singapore fortress are beginning to arrive. The First and Second Punjab Regiments from Taiping. have been transported to the island of Blakanmati, which is one of the king pins of the gun defences. The Malay Regiment from Port Dickson is under canvas at Changi, and 25 warships from the China squadron are expected shortly. The Royal Air Force is being reinforced by five squadrons from India and Iraq. The manoeuvres are expected to provide the biggest sham fight fought in the Far East, and will last for several days. Seven thousand men will participate.
