VETERAN CRICKETERS
TO THE EDITOK OP TUB PHESS. Sir, —The statement in "The Press" of January 11 by Billy Frith that he is the oldest representative cricketer in Canterbury is probably correct, as he played in the team that represented Canterbury against Auckland in 1877, whereas Johnny Fowke was not in representative cricket at that time. A peculiar feature of this 1877 match was that the Auckland team, playing on its own ground, were dismissed by Canterbury for 13 runs, eight of which came from extras, and the highest score of the innings from the bat was two runs. Seven of the Aucklanders failed to score. The following were in the Canterbury team: W. F. Neilson (captain), M. Godby, A. Terry, W. E. Morrison. C. Frith, W. Frith, W. V. Milton, E. Fowler, D. Ashby, A. C. Wilson, and J. Wood. The first four players belonged to the Timaru Club. —Yours, etc., W.H.F. Timaru, January 13, 1937.
