NATIONAL FLOWER SHOW
PLANS DISCUSSED Arrangements for the New Zealand National Horticultural Show, which is being held this year in Christchurch, on January 26 and 27, were discussed at a meeting of the show executive last evening, when Mr M. J. Barnett presided. The question of possible interference with the show by the infantile paralysis epidemic was raised, but it was decided not to hold up arrangements unless definite advice was received from the Health Department that the show could not be held. Mr J. A. McPherson reported for the exhibits committee that there would be a number of exhibits from the North Island, and others from Waimate, Rangiora, Oamaru, the Christchurch City Council reserves department, the Christchurch Domains Board, and from local growers. The care and treatment of lawns would be displayed in an exhibit from the plant research station at Palmerston North. Another exhibit would be of forestry products. As the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) advised that he could not attend to open the show, it was decided to ask the Minister for Agriculture (the Hon. W. Lee Martin) to do this. The visitors would be given a civic welcome by the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr J. W. Beanland), on January 26.
