GLUE WORKERS' DISPUTE

COMPLETE AGREEMENT CONCILIATION COUNCIL DISCUSSION A complete agreement was reached in Conciliation Council yesterday in the adjourned Canterbury glueworkers dispute. between the Canterbury Freezing Works and Related Trades Employees* Industrial Union of Workers and Davis Gelatine (N.Z.), Ltd. The emplovees' assessors were Messrs H. G. Kilpatrick. J. Roberts, T. Collctt. and T. Thompson. The employers were Messrs D. I. Macdonald, E. L. Hills, and W. G. Arneman. The main clauses of the agreement were:— , , „ Hours of Work—A week's work shall consist cf 44 hours, to be worked between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on five days of the week, no work to exceed eight and a quarter hours in any one day without payment of overtime. On Saturday the hours of work shail not exceed four, and shall be worked between 3 a.m. and 12 noon. The weekly hours for shift workers shall not exceed 40. which may be worked over six days of the week, provided that no shift exceeds eight hours inclusive of crib time. The hours of work for femaies and boys under 16 years of ace shall be 40 a week, which may be worked over five and a half days. The management may, by agreement with the union, vary the daily hour:; of commencing and ceasing work. Wages—The following shall be the minimum rates of wages:—Filtermen on continuous shifts, 2s 5.4 d an hour; other shift workers, 2s 3.6 d an hour; grease filtermen, 2s Id an hour; other workers, 2s an hour. Workers while engaged crushing kesilghur, 2d an hour extra. Workers while loading pans from sulphur vats shall be paid collectively Is 9d a vat extra, to be divided equally amongst each member of the gang. Workers while engaged chipping boilers or cleansing boiler Hues shall be paid Is an hour extra. Workers while engaged in main sump pushing down slurry after pumping shall be paid 3d an hour extra. Provided the pans are unloaded whilst hot. workers unloading trotter-pans and who are actually working in the pans shall be paid 6d a pan each extra.
