SOIL DEFICIENCIES AND MIGRATION DISCUSSED (PKESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, January 14. More than 60 papers were read in different sections of the Science Congress to-day. . ■ ~ . The two main topics considered jointly by several sections were the treatment of mineral deficiency in the, soils of. New Zealand and Australia, and a general review of the migration in New Zealand and the Commonwealth. " Included in the papers on the first subject was the Liversidge lecture, "Soil Deficiencies in New Zealand," by Dr T Rigg director of the Cawthron Institute, which showed the signal additions to world knowledge made by New Zealand scientists in the field of minor elements in plant and animal nutrition. ~ ~, , .. Migration was dealt- with from the angles of history, economics, oceanography, and geography. The subject is of particular importance in view of the interest the Government is known to take in the resumption of immigration. After the reading of the papers, a full and free „ discussion followed.
