FURTHER RESTRICTIONS URGED

SALE OF ALCOHOLIC LIQUOR Total abstinence from alcoholic, liquors and act-’ve work towards remedying the social order “which at present encourages many to seek certain satisfactions through alcoholic indulgence,” were urged on members at the annual convention of the New Zealand Methodist Young Men’s Bible Class Movement, held in Wellington. Resolutions were also passed urging members to total abstinence from alcoholic liquors and to active work towards remedying the social order “which at present encourages many to seek certain satisfactions through alcoholic indulgence.” Curtailment of the hours for the sale of liquor and stricter enforcement of the closing hour were also urged, “in view of the increased leisure provided for many people by the new legislation and the danger of such a change.” A new policy of decentralising the youth work into five districts, each with a full-time youth director, was adopted, subject to the final approval of the church. The following officers were elected: President, Mr J. Claridge; vice-presi-dents, Messrs H. Holdaway, A. Birtles, and C. R. Howell: secretary, Mr W. G. Holloway; treasurer, Mr A, C. Barrington.
