Government New Zealand Government 4 per cent. Bonds due 1949 changed hands at £ 104. North Canterbury Hospital Board 4i per cent, debentures due 1941 were dealt in at £lO2 10s, and Booth, Macdonald 5 per cent., 1937, at £72. National Bank of Australasia (£5 paid) had business at £7 11s. Bank of New Zealand changed hands at 41s 3d and 41s, market closing 40s 9d buyers, 41s 2d sellers. Buyers of Bank of New South Wales raised their bids to £35 10s without attracting sellers. Union Bank of Australasia (cum dividend) were firmer at £lO 6s. Goldsbrough, Morts had dealings at 37s 9d and 37s 10d, and these were buyers’ and sellers’ closing quotations respectively. New Zealand Refrigerating contributing appeared easier with buyers and business at 9s sd, sellers at 9s Cd. Christchurch Gas were firmer with buyers and dealings at 27s 6d. New Zealand Breweries appeared easier with sellers at 58s 9d. Tooth’s 'Brewery shares were firmer on buyers’ offers 57s 6d. Miscellaneous Anthony Hordern were fractionally firmer at 20s 4d and 20s sd, and there were further buyer’s at the higher price. Australian Iron and Steel preference changed hands at 26s and 25s lid, market closing 26s buyers, 26s 3d , sellers. British Tobaccos were firmer with buyers and dealings at 49s 6d, sellers at 49s 9d. Broken Hill Proprietary had business at 82s 4d. D.I.C. (10s paid) were dealt in at 16s 6d. Dunlop Perdriau Rubbers rose sharply to 18s lid, market closing Id either way. A late sale of Electrolytic Zinc on Tuesday was reported at 53s 9d and buyers yesterday offered 545, sellers i at 54s 9d; the preference were fractionally firmer at 55s lOd and 55s lid, and more were wanted at the higher price. G. J. Coles advanced to dealings at prices ranging from 97s 9d to 98s 3d, buyers staying in at the highest price, sellers at 98s 6d. Hume Pipe ‘(Australia) were fractionally firmer at 20s lOd, closing quotations Id on either side. Kauri Timbers moved up to 23s 3d. Morts Dock changed hands at 13s. Broken Hill South had business at 48s 6d. Mining Mount Lyells were stronger with dealings at 41s 9d and 42s 3d, and further sellers at the higher price, buyers at 42s 2d. Mount Mox'gans advanced to 17s and 17s Id, market closing 17s Id buyers, 17s 2d sellers. Unlisted Stocks Australian Investment Trust hacf business at 4s 7d. A late sale of Woolworths (Sydney) ordinary on Tuesday was reported at £8 14s 6d, and dealings yesterday were at prices ranging from £8 13s to £8 15s 9d, with further sellers 'at £8 16s, buyers at £8 14s 9d. INVESTMENT MARKET BUOYANT SEVERAL PRICE ADVANCES There was a good volume of diversified business yesterday, with activity in Electrolytic Zincs, Mount Lyells, Mount Morgans, and Woolworths at advanced rates. Markets generally were buoyant.

8 15 6 SYDNEY Despite the fall in the price of copper, interest was maintained in Mount Lyell shares on the Sydney Stock Exchange yesterday. The market otherwise was buoyant ana very'active.

MELBOURNE

The bond market was unchanged in Melbourne, but there was strong buying of Industrials with the leaders particularly to demand. Dunlops moved higher on the prospect of the interim .dividend. Barriers showed- rises in an active market. Sales:—
