"SERIOUS BLOW TO SPORT "

+ DEATH OF MR W. H. WINSOR CRICKET MEETING ADJOURNS "The loss of such an able administrator and friend of cricketers is a serious blow to sport not only in Christchurch but in the whole of New Zealand." With these words, Mr W. L. King, chairman of the Canterbury Cricket Association, moved a resolution of sympathy with the relatives of Mr W. H. Winsor, formerly president of the association, whose death occurred recently. After standing in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of Mr Winsor, the meeting adjourned. Mr Winsor's efforts for sport generally and for cricket in particular were outlined by Mr King. For 31 years he had been a member of the Lancaster Park Board, and during that time he had given : much valuable advice. As secretary of the New Zealand Cricket Council, he had given valuable assistance to the sport throughout the Dominion. The year after Mr Winsor came to Christchurch he joined the Sydenham Cricket Club, Mr C. H. Ayling said, and since then he had held the club together. He had held every office it was possible for a member to be elected to, and after the war whsn the club was threatened with extinction, only his great energy and resources kept it in existence. Mr C. S. Thompson, whose connexion with Mr Winsor on various boards extended over 30 years, described the loss as one which the community would feel. The association then passed the resolution of sympathy and adjourned without transacting any further business.
