BLIND GIRL’S SUCCESS IN EXAMINATIONS

BRISBANE, January 3. „ A blind girl, Mercy Griffin, a pupil of the Brisbane State High School, has achieved distinction in the senior public examination! She astounded the examiners by obtaining four honours passes, and one pass in the five subjects in which she entered. Having matriculated in the faculty of arts, Miss Griffin will probably take an arts course at the University of Queensland, and will be the first blind student to study at the university.

Miss Griffin studied Braille, taking all her notes by this means. In her senior examination she was provided with questions in Braille, a special supervisor being in attendance. She answered most of her questions on a Braille typewriter, although in one subject she succeeded in preparing her papers by touch-typing with an ordinary machine.
