CAUGHT BY FALL OF GRAVEL

WESTPORT, January 11. Caught in a fall of grave! in his mining claim at Coal Creek, .close by Tekua, near Westport, Otto _Hansen,. a single man, aged 50. was, atoutted to the Buller Hospital to-night with a fractured collarbone. Hansen was unconscious for a short time after being struck by the gravel, but was later able to walk out for assistance. His condition is satisfactory. BOY KILLED AT SPRINGBANK CRUSHED BENEATH HORSEDRAWN ROLLER Crushed beneath a horse roller he had been driving on his father s farm, Thorwald Charles King Marshall, aged 11, a son of Mr C. K. -Marshall, of Springbank, was killed instantly a bo*xt 4.50 p.m. yesterday. Apparently thhorses took fright and bolted, throwing the boy beneath the roller. When he was found, his head was badly mutilated.

STRUCK BY MOTOR-LORRY

TIMARU, January 11. While stepping off the footpath in front of her shop in Stafford street, Timaru, this morning, Mrs A. May was knocked down by a motor-lorry ana suffered injuries to her head and back, necessitating her admission to Bidwell street private hospital. The driver of the vehicle was Mr L. E. C. Freeman, a contractor. Others who were with Mrs May at the moment passed safely in front of the lorry. Mrs May's condition was fair in the afternoon.
