CLOSER LIAISON URGED

* AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND .COMMONWEALTH MINISTER’S APPEAL '.PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND. January 11. A strong plea for closer relations between Australia and New Zealand was made by Senator A J. McLachlan, Commonwealth Postmaster-Gen-eral and Minister in charge of Scientific and Industrial Research, in an interview to-night. “I believe that in this. gathering of scientists will be found the groundwork for closer liaison,” said Senator McLachlan. “I hold very strong personal views on the desirability and more than that, the necessity—of very close association between these two sister Dominions, which have so much in common.

“Various efforts have been made to promote closer relations, but one feels that as both Dominions are coming into full development more should be done to continue what has already been done and to broaden the scope of the movement.” said Senator McLacblan. “I hope to deal more specifically with this aspect of the question if I speak at the opening, meeting tomorrow.

“I Hold, most strongly that the word ‘Anzac,’ which has signified so much during the Igst 20 years, should carry a fuller significance in peace time, as well as in war time. We are of the same race, we have common Interests in the Pacific, and we have the same problems to solve over primary as well as secondary industries. I think a spearhead of co-operation, as I have already suggested, might be found in linking the research work of the Dominion with that of Australia."
