Heavy Loss in Britain Last Year BANKS REFUSE LOANS TO COMPANIES (UNITED PEBSS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.) • (Received January 8, 8.15 p.m.) LONDON, January 7. It is reliably reported that the British film industry is facing a crisis because of losses totalling £2,000,000 in the last year. Two banks are refusing more loans, and a receiver is likely to be appointed .to take over the affairs of one big group of producers. The film critic of the “Daily Herald” says that there has been absurd overspending and waste, on pictures made, at a cost of from £IOO,OOO to £150,000, on unpopular subjects. ■
