The Butterfly
Once upon a time there was a little girl .churning butter for her mother. She opened the top to see if it was ready, and in flew a large, brightly-coloured moth. She called to her mother, saying, “Come and see this strange fly in the butter.” Her mother said, “What a strange creature, I wonder what its name is? Let us call it the butterfly as it got in our butter.” ... The little girl agreed and it has been called that ever since. —GILLIAN TONKIN, 5 Hamilton avenue.
