A GOOD SEASON IN PROSPECT
CROPS LOOKING WELL AT * LAURISTON Seldom, at this lime of the year, have Lauriston farm lands looked greener and more promising. The regular rainfall has, promoted steady growth in crops and pastures and given some warm weather and suitable harvesting conditions, a very satisfactory grain harvest should result. Early crops of oats are now mainly cut and in stock, awaiting fine weather for stacking or threshing. Some grass seed has been reaped, but stripping has not yet begun, as the seed is ripening slowly because of frequent rains. Crops of wheat and oats are looking healthy and appear to be filling well. These crops will not be ready for some time yet. Rape and turnip crops are looking well, having made a good start under moist soil conditions. v The main shearing in the district is completed, though there are still a few flocks in the wool, the frequent rains having delayed shearing operations. Before the Christmas holidays many trucks of fat lambs left Lauriston for the freezing works. The lambs have, generally speaking, killed out at good weights and good quality. '*
