The British Broadcasting Corporation is looking for a survivor of the great volcanic eruption of Krakatoa in 1883. He is wanted to make a contribution to the series cf broadcasts entitled. “I Was There.” Krakatoa is an island in the straits between Sumatra and Java. Between August 26 and 28, 1883. violent eruptions blew two-thirds of the island away, leaving a cavity, the bottom of which was more than 1000 feet below sea level. Stones, dust, and ashes shot up 17 miles in the air. and dust particles were carried all over Europe. America, and Asia —from, the north of Scandinavia to the south of Australia —during tim fallowing _ six weeks. Huge waves. SO feet hig'n which caused the deaths of SS.OOJ people in boats and coastal town -. soread even as far as the Engli-n Channel. The British Broadcast Corporation found one survivor, but he was an old man. and died a for days later, before he could rcccrc h:s experiences. .
