The stud has been very heavily culled annually and importations have been maintained right through its history, so that to-day there is no mare in the stud which is not of high prospective value. Mr Donald has met with phenomenal success. and his judgment is very well known. Catalogues give full particulars of the breeding of the mares. The young mares are nearly all by the phenomenally successful sires. Limond and Chief Ruler, whose daughters are already meeting with wonderful success. The foals at foot are by Beau Pere (imp.). Captain Bunsby (imp.). Colonel Cygnus (imp.), and Irish Lancer (imp.), and the mares have all been served by either Beau Pere or Phaleron Bay. The outstanding draft of 14 yearlings from Westmere by Beau Pere will be sold at the National Sales on January 21st. The foals by this sire are particularly outstanding and indicate that he is going to prove a remarkably successful sire. He is one of the best bred horses in the world, being by Son-in-law from Cinna, apd is a halfbrother to Gay Shield, and closely related to Spearhead, etc. He is the sire of a winner in England, his first foal. Phaleron Bay. imported last season, has developed into a magnificent type, and is a fit compatriot to Beau Pere, who is one of the most magnificent stallions ever imported. Palmeron Bay, by Phalaris from Brodick Bay, by Swynford, is a three-quarter brother to Miracle and a very close relation to Fairway and Pharos, thus representing the leading blood in the world to-day.
