SPORTING AND OTHER ATTRACTIONS CANCELLATIONS CAUSED BY INFANTILE PARALYSIS Cancellation of outings and sports mootings as a precaution against the spread of infantile paralysis has shortened to some extent the list of attractions for holiday-makers on Boxing Day. Nevertheless, there is plenty for the amusement of people of various tastes, and to-day should be in the true tradition of past Boxing Days. There are racing and trotting both In Canterbury and on the West Coast—racing at Hurunui and Hokitika, and trotting at Ashburton and Westport. The Plunkct Shield cricket match, Auckland v. Canterbury, will be continued, giving lovers of cricket a day at the lazy and fascinating occupation of watching cricket. The open golf tournament at Shirley and the tennis tournament at Wilding Park will provide for many people.
