Eileen was chosen as the challenger: but at a meeting of the Otago Yacnt and Motor-Boat Association on Monday night El Cuthbert, skipper of Eileen, stated that under the conditions laid down by the selection committee no was not prepared to hand over hi. boat to the association. The recommendation of the sailing committee was that Cuthbert should be skipper in heavy weather, and ttotC. J. Pettit. skipper of the lunette. should be in charge of Eileen in light and fluky breezes, the manager of tne crew to be the sole and final judge in the matter. .... After discussing the question fullj in the light of Cuthbert's objections to this proposal, the association decided to uphold the recommendations of me sailing committee. It was finally decided to write to Mr Cuthbert, sen. asking if he was prepared to hand over Eileen for the contest, and to Mr Cuthbert, jun., asking whether he would travel as a member of the crew. at the same time abiding by the decision of the manager. A time limit was fixed for the receipt of replies. As no replies had been received by to-night, it was decided to instruct the sailing committee to proceed with the selection of another challenger and crew for the contest. i j ! I | i • i I I
