Continuing his tour of the West Coast, the Hon. P. Eraser, accompanied by Mrs Frascr and Mr J. O'Brien, member of Parliament for Westland, left Hokitika yesterday morning and inspected the Rimu dredge, Mr Walter Radford, managing director of tne Rimu Gold Dredging Company, conducted the party over the dredge. Mr Fraser arrived at Waiho Gorge in the evening, after having received several deputations on the way. He will stay at Waiho Gorge until Christmas morning, and will then visit the Fox Glacier. The Hon. D. G. Sullivan (Minister for Industries and Commerce and Railways) arrived from Wellington yesterday. He will leave today to spend a few days on Banks Peninsula. Mr William Watson, of Wellington, yesterday celebrated his ninetieth birthday. He is a well-known figure in banking in the Dominion, and has been a director of the Bank of New Zealand, representing the ordinary shareholders' interests, since 1898.—Press Association. Mr H. J. Evans were appointed by the North Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday as its delegates to the general conference of the Hospital Boards' Association to be held at Timaru in March. Mr Walter Green, a director of the Union Steam Ship Company, was a passenger by the oteamer express yesterday morning. Mr G. S. Cooper, who will leave for Wellington on January 2 qn transfer, was met by surfing and swimming friends and presented with a rug. Speakers were Messrs J. Mackenzie (Canterbury Swimming Centre), R. P. Round (Canterbury Surf Association), and J. P. Donnelly and S. Hollander (Elmv/ood Swimming Club). Captain A. J. Charman, marine superintendent in the South Island for the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company. Ltd., was a passenger from the north yesterday morning. Colonel G. J. Smith returned' from the north yesterday morning.
