FINAL ATTRACTIONS CANCELLED RANGIORA'S FESTIVITY WEEK Rain yesterday morning made necessary the cancellation of three more features of Festivity Week in Rangiora. These were the entertainments by Mephisto, the parade of the Rangiora Brass Band, and the open-air dance which was to have been held in Victoria Park last evening. Festivity Week this year promised to be very successful, but most of the special attractions have had to be cancelled either because of the infantile paralysis epidemic or because of wet weather. Gatherings that were held, however, were well patronised and thoroughly enjoyed by people from both town and country. The week will end to-day, and the window "spotting" competition conducted by shopkeepers will close this evening. Decorations in High street will remain in place until the New Year. Retailers had a busy day yesterday, and are expecting a record turnover to-day. Prospects are for a very bright Christmas Eve, and shops will not close until 10 o'clock this evening. The holiday will extend until Monday, and there will be similar arrangements next week for New Year. . Cherry Crops Damaged Coming when the ±ruit had just matured, steady rain during the last few days has caused considerable damage to cherry crops in the Rangiora district. At the Hayland orchards, Okuku, nearly the entire crop has been ruined, and the orchards have been closed to the public. A grower Tn Rangiora does not expect to pick more than 30 pounds of first-grade cherries, compared with his normal picking of about 250 pounds. Personal Messrs W. T. N. Keir, J. M. Fraser, L. P. Devlin, W. C. McCracken, and C. Taylor, of Rangiora, will leave today to spend Christmas at Havelock. Regent Theatre A particularly brilliant programme ( of laughter and comedy will be presented this afternoon and evening and to-morrow (Chrislmas Day) afternoon and evening, at the Regent Theatre, Rangiora. Grade Fields will be seen in her latest comedy success, "Look Up and Laugh," supported by four of England's leading comedians. Acclaimed by the critics overseas as "Gracie's funniest film." "Look Up and Laugh" is a perfect feast of entertainment. On Saturday (Boxing Day), afternoon and evening.
