WHERE 3YA IS HEARD
+ AMERICA AND AUSTRALIA The National Broadcasting Service stations 3YA and 3YL, in Christchurch, receive dozens of letters each month, reporting reception of one or both of the stations. These letters are mostly written by enthusiasts who request, in return, some form of verification of their reception. The letters and reports are filed for reference, and many of them make interesting, and in some cases amusing, reading. They also give a good idea of the range of the transmitters. Mr A. B. Young, the programme organiser, told a representative of "The Press" yesterday that more reports from oversea listeners were received when the 10,000 watt transmitter was first put into operation. The file of letters received during the last few months contained several letters fro abroad reporting reception of 3YA. It is evident that 3YA can be heard fairly easily all over tha Dominion, and in some parts of Australia. The lowerpowered station 3YL. can be heard throughout New Zealand, but in many cases it fades right out, or is subject to bad interference from Australian stations operating on the some or adjacent frequencies. There was no report of reception of 3YL outside New Zealand contained in the file. Hawaii often receives 3YA at good volume. There v. _e half a dozen reports from Canada and the United States A man from Buffalo, New York, reported the station as being at low volume, but perfectly readable, with no fading and a good tone. Although there have been many reports from Australia, for some reason the station cannot be received well in New South Wales, or there is little interest in distant reception in that state. Onl" one report was from New South Wales, and one from "outh Australia.
