OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, December 23. The Dominion Observatory's weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m., and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as ioV.ows: — Moderate to strong north easterly winds, backing again to southerlies alter about 24 hours. Weather mainly fair, but cloudy . on the coast and with occasional drizzling rain in places. Temperatures moderate; seas moderate. The following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather mainly fair in western districts; elsewhere still cloudy to . overcast and in places misty, with Intermittent rain; but conditions improving temporarily to-morrow. Temperatures cool but rising. Anticyclones are located respectively to the north of the Dominion and east of the South Island, while an area of low pressure lies between. A complex depression Is also located over the western Tasman Sea, but pressure is now higher over Australia than it has been for a considerable period. Winds—Moderate to strong northwest to westerly, backing temporarily to south-westerJy over the northern half of the North Island; elsewhere southerly to easterly, strong in parts of the Cook Strait and Foveaux Strait areas, but otherwise moderate and later changing to north-easterlies. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rather rough to rough north of Farewell Spit and about Cook Strait; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman—West to southwest winds at first in the northern portion, but north-easterlies soon prevailing generally. Force, light to moderate, with slight to moderate seas, I but wind and sea later increasing.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was dull, with an easterly wind, which became stronger during the day. There were light falls of rain.
