DRAINAGE BOARD RESIGNATIONS
The resignations of two members, Messrs G. H. W. Winter and T. H. Butterfield, who had lost their residential qualifications, were received by the Christchurch Drainage Board last evening. Because of the resignations a by-election will now be necessary to elect representatives for the two districts, of Heathcote and South-west Christchurch. The election will be held on February 18, nominations and electoral rolls closing on January 19. The chairman, Mr W. R. Carey, said the board would feel great regret at losing two such valuable members as Mr Winter and Mr Butterfield had been. Their relations with the board had been wry pleasant, and although there had been differences of opinion, the debates had always been notable for restraint and good feeling. A resolution placing on record tin services of the two retiring menj» bers was carried unanimously.
