CONTRACT BRIDGE

SUCCESS OF CHRISTCHURCH PLAYERS

Recognising that correct bidding is an important part of contract bridge playing, the Dutch Bridge League designed a world bidding tournament, exclusively for bidding, and it has been decided that these tournaments will be arranged three times a year. The first was held in October, when amongst the competitors were a number of Christchurch players, who, under the directorship of Mrs Fred. Banks, competed in the world-wide bidding tournament.

The results of the tournaments were received in Christchurch yesterday, when Mrs Banks was advised that two Christchurch players—Mrs Lawrence Wyles and Mrs Renton Bell—had the distinction of gaining third place in the competition. The results were as follows: Mr and Mrs J. de Kuyper (The Hague), 8880 points .. .. 1 Mrs Hunter and Mrs Lazear (Cheyenne, United States of America), 8460 points .. .. 2 Mrs L. Wyles and Mrs R. Bell (Christchurch, New Zealand), 7890 points .. 3 The result of the tournament reached Christchurch by air mail. Prizes awarded to Mrs Wyles and Mrs Bell for their fine performance will be forwarded to them later from The Hague.
