SEAMAN’S BODY FOUND
MISSING FROM STEAMER TEES The body of Robert Henry, a seaman who had been missing from the steamer Toes since about December 13, was found floating in the harbour at Lyttelton. near No. 1 breastwork late yesterday afternoon. Henry was believed to .have been a single man, a native of the Shetland Islands, and had been employed as a seaman in coastal vessels for some years. He was first reported missing on December 13, and he did not appear on December 14 when the crew of the vessel was paid off. His shipmates made a search for him and the engines of the Tees were set going on the latter date, in the belief that, if Henry had fallen overboard, his body would come to the surface. It was afterwards reported that Henry had been seen in Lyttelton, but that report now appears to have been incorrect.
When the dredge Canterbury was berthing at No. 1 breastwork yesterday afternoon the wash from her propellers brought the body to the surface, where it remained floating and was recovered by the police. An inquest will be held this morning.
