SPEEDWAY RACING
(JALA OPENING ON BOXING NIGHT
An attractive holiday programme has been drawn up for the first meeting of the 1936-37 broadsiding season, which will be inaugurated at Monica Park bn Saturday evening. It is anticipated that some of the finest racing yet seen at the stadium will be witnessed. for two noted Australian stars have been engaged to appear, and the track has been specially reconditioned and many improvements made. It is expected’ that a record crowd will attend the gala opening, and In view of this no effort has been spared by the management (Stadium Sports Ltd.), to make the meeting a memor-able-one. The programme will include match, scratch, and handicap races, and there should be no lack of thrills.
Bill Melhuish (Newcastle) and Dick Duggan (Woollahrai, the two young and popular Australians, who will be making their debut, are fresh from recent successes in Sydney. They come here with a big reputation and should give a first-class exhibition. In addition, there is a good entry of local riders.
In accordance with the recommendations of the Health Department, the management announces that, owing to the prevalence of infantile paralysis in the south, children under 12 will not be admitted.
